Coronary Artery Disease

Coronary artery disease (CAD) occurs when the blood vessels supplying the heart muscle become narrowed or blocked by plaque buildup, restricting blood flow and increasing the risk of angina, heart attack or heart failure. Diagnosis typically starts with an ECG and may include an echocardiogram or stress test. Treatment ranges from lifestyle changes and medication to procedures that restore blood flow, depending on severity.
